50/50

Whenever the theoretical and mathematical probability of a certain outcome is a non-zero value, then the effective probability of that outcome is then 50/50.

As long as something is possible then no matter what the predicted odds are, it will always turn out to be a matter of that outcome, or not that outcome. It does not matter how stacked the odds are against that outcome, it will be 50/50 because it has a possibility of occuring.

Ex. If you are going into an operation and the doctor says that there is a one in twenty thousand chance that you will die in the operating room, the effective probability of you dying is 50/50. The calculated theoretical probability, one in twenty thousand, takes into account many factors, including past statistics, but what matters is not how many go into the operation and make it out just fine, what matters is you. Although the chance is only one in twenty thousand, it is no more likely to be person A, or you. It is more likely to be someone else in a crowd of twenty thousand, however, each one, each individual is no more likely to be that unlucky one. Since the chances are all equal for all of the patients, then the probability of a certain person dying in the operating room is 50/50.

Whenever there is a potential outcome that is not impossible, then it is bound to happen at least once. It may not be soon, or very often, but the point is, since it is possible, it will eventually happen.

Either it is the predicted outcome, or it is not. Theoretical probability is thus, useless.

so today i went biking and took my dad's 35mm SLR (Pentax K1000) for a spin. Twas fun. I've never really done that before, going out for the sole reason of taking pictures, that is. Now i want my own 35mm SLR because its more traditional and old school...but a digital SLR is more convenient and cheaper in the long run. so here's my to buy list. Used 35mm SLR (an oldschool one...not like the new crap) from Henry's, and then eventually, when i get a real job, a digital SLR (NOT the canon rebel).
and if you're wondering, im keeping my minolta. (wow...3 cameras for 3 different situations/events/dealies/hoohaaxibotrebaaliowcudaloit.

...i need money...i can't afford my hobbies

poop.

So, to move away from my depression/madness/decline into insanity, I have created this post.

For no reason whatsoever, I was surfing the blogring for MCBC, and I was just clicking around, reading some of them (some that I have never read before...I REALLY did NOT feel like doing g and d homework, so I decided to surf). I stumbled upon Joh Au's blog. One of her older posts was as follows:

"The scientist believe that the 10 plagues of Egypt (Exodus 7-11) are not miracles but can be explained by the occurance of a volcanic eruption. hmm...
"volcano erupts. the dirt goes into the Nile river turning the water blood red. The frogs that inhabit the river gets driven out on the land dries out and dies. The frog corpses breed the gnats and flies. The buggies infest the livestock and they die and rot. Bringing disease (can't remember which one he said) causing the boils. The volcanic activity and ash causes the sudden rise and dropping of temperature in the atmosphere bringing hail. I can't remember the explaination of the locust. The plague of darkness was caused by the volcanic ash in the atmosphere blocking out all sunlight."

Heres what I have to say about that. So what if they have found a way for it to happen that is still within the laws of nature that we live by? Does that not make it a miracle? If your friend gets into a car accident and is given a very grim prognosis, yet makes it out alive, is that not a miracle? Yet, medical science can easily explain it. Lets say I decide to run for school president. I`m not what you would consider the most popular kid in school...or popular at all for that matter, and we all know that these campaigns are all popularity contests. So I ask for a miracle, that I can be elected the President for next year (despite the fact that I`m graduating). So despite the unlikeliness, despite the stacked odds against me, I win. How did I win? Thats easy to explain. The votes were in my favour. Ok. So it can be explained, but that does not make it any less of a miracle.

Moreover, in the atheistic scientists eyes, Christian beliefs will never win the debate, no matter WHAT evidence is put forth. Why do I say that? Well, in this case, the 10 plagues were explained using the laws of nature, and it was shown that it was possible to occur in a natural way, therefore divine intervention did not occur. That to the atheistic scientist, is enough to disprove the existance of a God. On the contrary, lets take an ongoing debate, such as that of the Great Flood as mentioned in Genesis. Science has been unable to find a way for this to occur. One of the largest barriers to the occurance of the flood is the question of where all of the water went after the flood. The amount of water required to flood the whole earth was estimated and did not amount to the total volume of water on earth today, including the polar ice caps. Second, there was no way that the ark could have been built with enough space and reservations for all of the creatures on earth at the time. And the list goes on and on. This is the COMPLETE opposite of the example that Joh gave. In her example, the 10 plagues could have occured naturally, therefore divine intervention was not necessary. In my example, the event as recorded in the Bible seems to violate the natural laws that govern the universe. So to the scientist, the flood NEVER TOOK PLACE.

odd isn't it?

If it can be explained, God was not needed. If it cannot be explained, then it never happened. Thanks scientists.

Now, I`m not saying this because I hate science, for science is the study of the world around us. Science is not something to hate, rather something to embrace, and once in a while, refute. I love science, especially physics and chemistry, which is why I`m studying engineering next year. But just note that there are flaws in science. Er...sorry, rather there are flaws in the conclusions that scientists draw with the given evidence, and sometimes we need to think for ourselves and make our own logical conclusions. Don`t look down on yourself because you`re not a science geek, don`t say "They`re smarter than me so they must be right". Think for yourself.

So to tie this all up, am I dissapointed that some people have found a valid, natural way of explaining the 10 plagues? NOT AT ALL. I am content with that theory. Its a cool theory. I never thought of it that way. Just keep in mind, everything around us was created by God. God even created the laws governing the way nature operates, and he can intervene with those forces any time He wishes to do so. Basically, what I`m saying is, although it can be explained, I will still stand by the fact that God made it happen. God made the volcano erupt and so on and so forth in order to produce all of those consequences.

longest post ever.

done.

So this is where I suck...

...up my pride.

In light of a certain event coming up in about a month or so, I have decided to suck up my pride and accept defeat so to speak. You were an asshole to me, and in return, I returned the favour and was an asshole to you. I hated you for being a hypocrite, yet all the while, I myself was a hypocrite as well. Kind of ironic if you think about it. I have decided to loosen the tension, forgive and forget, in order for everyone to enjoy the upcoming event. It should be a joyous occasion, and this tension and hatred would ruin it all. This does not mean we will be great friends again. I'm not sure we will ever be able to regain that kind of friendship again, but at least now we can have a neutral friendship. At least now we won't hate each other. I'm not asking to be best friends, nor do I want to be best friends with you, but at the same time, I don't want to hate you. It has taken its toll on me, it has taken its toll on you, it has taken its toll on everyone we know.

The endness mads here...er...the madness ends here.

im sorry

chances are, the person I am directing this to does not read this anymore (I know karwai reads this becuase he commented, but its not you karwai), on account or the mutual tension between us, but thats alrite. I need to get this off my chest. Maybe I'll do it in person...

and to answer someone's question posed to me earlier, Yes. Yes I do think I've changed.

and thats sad.

game freaking over.
abandon ship.
abort.
retreat.

*sigh*

dag.
I thought things would be better.

I was wrong.

let go?

YAY! I'm so happy. Finally somebody stood up against those sh*tbags. It's about freaking time seriously! Props to (insert name of hero here). Let this be a lesson to you all.

I had actually hoped that it could have been me. That it could have been ME that stood up for those ideals, that it could have been me making the point. But oh well. I celebrate because SOMEONE has done it. Congrats. (it's about time somebody taught those dumb sh*ts a lesson).

WOOT!
ps: I don't mind the language because nobody reads this anyways, and in order to portray my feelings, I need to use harsh language. However, if you ARE reading this, please don't be offended.

warning: The following contains moments of "emo"ness. Reader discretion is advised.

Well, I'm going to try to keep this ambiguous, but its hard to be ambiguous and get my points across. (damn).
Crap. Seems like everything has gone to the shits this year. I kind of thought that this would be the time of our lives. I thought that we could end off on a good note -- or at least a better note. What happened? How did this happen? When did this start happening? Who knows. Who cares? The point is it has happened; over the past few weeks and months moreso. Should I be upset? Or would that just mean that I'm naive? Was this inevitable? Or was there some way to avoid it. But now that it has happened, should I let destruction take its course? Or should I try to mend things and patch things up where needed. Personally, I think and feel the former. However, I've been told the latter, and that person sent me on quite the guilt trip. He/She had a point though.

I dont know. I feel like sh*t for letting this go on. I feel like shit for being a part of the problem. You know what they say, "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." Even literally too. I've been quite the a$$hole too. I will admit that. But I've been so hurt so many times, it just feels like its my turn to make people feel like absolute crap. Lowest of the Low. I know that makes me an a$$hole, a terrible friend, jerk etc. but I've taken enough crap already and I refuse to be stepped on. I've digressed a little. If you are lost, this paragraph explains what led up to the first paragraph.

So is this the end? Or will there be a happy ending to this story? I'll let time take its course.

dammit. dammit.
