So, to move away from my depression/madness/decline into insanity, I have created this post.
For no reason whatsoever, I was surfing the blogring for MCBC, and I was just clicking around, reading some of them (some that I have never read before...I REALLY did NOT feel like doing g and d homework, so I decided to surf). I stumbled upon Joh Au's blog. One of her older posts was as follows:
"The scientist believe that the 10 plagues of Egypt (Exodus 7-11) are not miracles but can be explained by the occurance of a volcanic eruption. hmm...
"volcano erupts. the dirt goes into the Nile river turning the water blood red. The frogs that inhabit the river gets driven out on the land dries out and dies. The frog corpses breed the gnats and flies. The buggies infest the livestock and they die and rot. Bringing disease (can't remember which one he said) causing the boils. The volcanic activity and ash causes the sudden rise and dropping of temperature in the atmosphere bringing hail. I can't remember the explaination of the locust. The plague of darkness was caused by the volcanic ash in the atmosphere blocking out all sunlight."
Heres what I have to say about that. So what if they have found a way for it to happen that is still within the laws of nature that we live by? Does that not make it a miracle? If your friend gets into a car accident and is given a very grim prognosis, yet makes it out alive, is that not a miracle? Yet, medical science can easily explain it. Lets say I decide to run for school president. I`m not what you would consider the most popular kid in school...or popular at all for that matter, and we all know that these campaigns are all popularity contests. So I ask for a miracle, that I can be elected the President for next year (despite the fact that I`m graduating). So despite the unlikeliness, despite the stacked odds against me, I win. How did I win? Thats easy to explain. The votes were in my favour. Ok. So it can be explained, but that does not make it any less of a miracle.
Moreover, in the atheistic scientists eyes, Christian beliefs will never win the debate, no matter WHAT evidence is put forth. Why do I say that? Well, in this case, the 10 plagues were explained using the laws of nature, and it was shown that it was possible to occur in a natural way, therefore divine intervention did not occur. That to the atheistic scientist, is enough to disprove the existance of a God. On the contrary, lets take an ongoing debate, such as that of the Great Flood as mentioned in Genesis. Science has been unable to find a way for this to occur. One of the largest barriers to the occurance of the flood is the question of where all of the water went after the flood. The amount of water required to flood the whole earth was estimated and did not amount to the total volume of water on earth today,
including the polar ice caps. Second, there was no way that the ark could have been built with enough space and reservations for
all of the creatures on earth at the time. And the list goes on and on. This is the COMPLETE opposite of the example that Joh gave. In her example, the 10 plagues could have occured naturally, therefore divine intervention was not necessary. In my example, the event as recorded in the Bible seems to violate the natural laws that govern the universe. So to the scientist, the flood NEVER TOOK PLACE.
odd isn't it?
If it can be explained, God was not needed. If it cannot be explained, then it never happened. Thanks scientists.
Now, I`m not saying this because I hate science, for science is the study of the world around us. Science is not something to hate, rather something to embrace, and once in a while, refute. I love science, especially physics and chemistry, which is why I`m studying engineering next year. But just note that there are flaws in science. Er...sorry, rather there are flaws in the conclusions that scientists draw with the given evidence, and sometimes we need to think for ourselves and make our own logical conclusions. Don`t look down on yourself because you`re not a science geek, don`t say "They`re smarter than me so they must be right". Think for yourself.
So to tie this all up, am I dissapointed that some people have found a valid, natural way of explaining the 10 plagues? NOT AT ALL. I am content with that theory. Its a cool theory. I never thought of it that way. Just keep in mind, everything around us was created by God. God even created the laws governing the way nature operates, and he can intervene with those forces any time He wishes to do so. Basically, what I`m saying is, although it can be explained, I will still stand by the fact that God made it happen. God made the volcano erupt and so on and so forth in order to produce all of those consequences.
longest post ever.
done.
