crossing off the days on my calender,
counting down the weeks,
*sigh*
actually, speaking of my don (from previous post) she said something to me the other night that i REALLY disagreed with, and i was even slightly offended that she said that. i want to talk to her about it, but i mean, its not a big deal or anything (to her at least), but i do want to clarify it with her. not that ME saying anything would change jack. hmmm...i just dont want her to think that i'm like that...i want her to know that
we are not like that.
we are not like most people.
update: there is an awkward, eerie silence on my floor. o well, weekend coming up. time to let loose again!...or will that even happen now?
times like these i jsut want to go home to familiar faces.
[insert emo quote here]
just to reiterate, im not homesick :D
in other news, i got 85/100 on my field survey from last week!...that was a nice change from the previous, 33.5/90!!! (the first one was only worth 0.5% of our final mark, whereas the second one was worth 2%) so yea, things are starting to turn out for the better.
o and another interesting fact, today's field survey took over 5 hours.
untitled...we made her cry...
thats right, we made our don cry.
...she cried...
i feeeeeeel soooooooooooooo bad.
crap.
long story short, we were loud after quiet hours.
things just won't be the same on this floor anymore. *sigh*

some things never changeso once again, i am stuck picking up the slack. picking up the slack because despite the near four grand tuition, people are still being lazy and dont give a crap about their education. picking up the slack because instead of spending an extra 20mins to half an hour on a saturday afternoon, others would rather go home, do jack crap, and then get completely wasted at night.
some things never change. i thought things would be different here, that people would actually care. i hate my group with a passion. i'm telling them to do somethign that was required (something that everyone in the group has to do) and they're trying to argue with me asking what the point of it was if something else was done. well guess what? i didnt make the rules! you dont want to do it? you want to fail? i dont give a crap about you, but hey, dont drag me down with you while you're at it. wonderful, you guys are. o and not to mention a group member didnt even show up when we were supposed to. now, normally, i wouldnt care, but the thing with this assignment is we have to write things out in a fieldbook and everyone in the group has to have the exact same field book because we wont know who's gets marked. it could be his. he has nothing. great.
and not to mention the fact that when we got together to try to get things done, it consisted of me babying everyone in the group because they are too freaking dumb and lazy to read the book that has EVERYTHING OUTLINED FOR YOU AND JUST SPOON FEEDS YOU THE INFORMATION. man i cant stand these people!!!

i was just talking to one of the group members on msn and i was telling him how there was ONLY ONE WAY to print out a document. and that it was lined out on a tutorial that we were given (which by the way, no one did but me, so they have no idea whats going on) and as im telling him, he sets his status to away, and i never hear from him again! im pretty sure he just left.

o and by the way, i didnt choose the group. im not that dumb. the prof chose all the groups. you should have seen the look on my face when i found out these guys were my group members.

impromptu debating galoreso today annie, danielle and i got together to do some work together. they had to do calc, and i had to do chem, and then we did algebra together. but thats only half of the story. well, seeing as how we all just met each other (over the course of this past week) i definately learned a few new things about them today.
a) well all have our own point of view on certain controversial topics,
b) we all feel very adamantly towards the views we have
c) no one will budge,
d) danielle and i like to debate, annie likes to yell (ok thats a lie, annie debates too, but she does like to yell)
so yea, we went through a few topics and it felt pretty cool. 3 people from 3 (kind of) different backgrounds giving their opinions on things. the best part was just how it even started. i believe we were talking about the masculinity of the colour pink. and then danielle and annie both said that it was very metrosexual. i hopped in and said not at all. SOMEHOW the issue of homosexuality came up. annie then says a few things that were super offensive towards homosexuals, and it became apparent that she was without a doubt, homophobic. now would be a good time to add that annie is a Christian. now would also be a good time to add danielle is atheist. so there was annie, who was being very ignorant, she said so herself, and the comments that she kept making were completely out of line and were completely ignorant remarks; there was me who took the stance that a sin is a sin is a sin is a sin, no matter what it is, its the same in God's eyes and being straight doesnt make you better off than someone who is gay, and that ultimately it wasnt your sexual orientation that saved you, it was the saving knowledge and acknowledgement of Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour that would save you; and then there was danielle who was soooo against what annie was saying and jsut sticking up for equal rights for all. so that went on for a really long time, and well, annie was definately digging herself a grave as she spoke. she was well, i've said this word numerous times before and it may be getting redundant, but she is
nothing shy of ignorant. i think even i was slightly offended by some of the things that she said. she took her homophobia too far. she generalized all homosexuals and just put them in a box and made assumptions aboutall of them. she even asked the question "can you be a Christian and gay?" THAT was upsetting. especially becuase there was a non-christian there with us the whole time. this showed to her a few things. that a) the people of the faith can't even agree on things, and b) that their suspicions were correct, that the media had been portraying Christians properly, that we were all just completely oblivious to the lives of those around us who are not in our community of faith. and well i would have been glad to go all out with that one particular debate, i had to remained pretty rserved about some of the things i said. i really had to think about HOW to say the things i wanted to say, simply becuase there was a non-christian there who would have picked all of our words apart and analyze them. thats just who danielle is.
that said, we grabbed some dinner and that topic slowly died (thankfully). and then i dont even know HOW but somehow abortion came up. annie was not part of this one. she was pretty quiet the whole time. but danielle and i took two different sides to it, and we started going on and on and on about it. neither of us was going to budge. we knew what we believed, we stood for what we stood for. we both had our reasons. i can see her reasons for feeling a certain way, and she saw my side of the argument as well, but in the end, well, nothing got done, so we simply shook on it and that was it.
i later regrattablu brought up another topic, in which i didn't feel so adamantly about, but it clearly affected annie and it definately rubbed her the wrong way. i dropped numerous hints to danielle to drop the subject beucase annie was taking it really personally and it was getting out of hand, but she didnt notice my attempts. but then that ended (i dont remember how) and i was nothing shy of relieved.
but in all, they are super cool people. we have fun times together, and its nice when we get into such heated debates. i had fun. i liked how we had not 2, but 3 vastly different viewpoints on topics. we never once agreed. often two people would come
close to agreeing, but never close enough to really be in agreeance. tonight was definately exciting and a real eye opener. i hope more will come.
speaking of having different viewpoints, the funny thing is the three of us ar just pretty different in general, its odd how we spend so much of our time together. we are quite an odd combination if i do say so myself. they're civil engineers too! so yea, we can get togehter to hang out, argue, fight, study...everything.
man im really tired now and i really want to make it to the early morning CFC service tomorrow. goodnight all.

enter tumbleweedwell, its the first weekend since classes have started, second since the move-in and EVERYONE is GONE!
everyone went home. my floor is deserted. there are currently two people (including me) here. i'm guessing most of them are staying here but are just out, but i know of a LARGE handful who have gone home (karwai included...jerk...)
its quiet here. too quiet if i do say so myself. o man, its really really lonely now. kind of depressing :(
but o well, i'm a trooper. i'll stay here, even if i'm the only one here. (...or maybe i'll go home next weekend :P). depends on my work...and whether or not i feel like it.
im just rambling on and on now. i don't even know what im talking about now. im jsut trying to do SOMEHTING to occupy the time and take my mind off this lonliness.
i love my calc prof. he's quite the character. he's hilarious! and he always keeps a straight face when he cracks jokes. its just the way he says things too. he's a funny guy. he's pretty old...and that makes it all the more hilarious!
i like my profs in general. they really do care about us as individuals; especially bob. he's a cool guy. even though he's a hardass in class and curses at us, he is a really nice guy and genuinely cares about each and every one of us.
o and have i mentioned this place is deserted right now? dang. so lonely. the only froshies that i know who are staying for sure this weekend are danielle and annie...and thats only becuase they live in bc and saskatchewan respectively. they're my fellow troopers...the hardcore ones. well, they're more hardcore than me...they're not going back until Christmas (which is really depressing...i really feel sorry for them. not so much the fact that they dont get to go home and see their parents, but moreso the fact that they will have to stay here in a deserted residence while everyone is home for thanksgiving and whatnot).
yea, i really love it here. just everyhting about university. living on my own, being independant, making choices on my own -- doing what i please. which is not to say i have no limits. i still have morals that i still keep. its just now i can do things like go out whenever i want, wherever i want, with whomever i want. i can sleep in the student life centre if i so desire, i can go grab a coffee at 1am if i wish, i can wander campus...anything. the residence that i was soooo upset with before i moved in has started to grow on me. its not that bad. in fact, its not bad at all.
o yea, have i mentioned i love this place?
i love it here.
but i miss home. not the house, not the cooking, not the clean washrooms, not the convenience of cars...but the people.
o well, soon i will have each and everyone of you replaced by someone else!
:O whoops! did i just say that?! haha
(i was kidding by the way :P)
and for the record, i'm not homesick. i told my parents i wouldnt be as homesick as my sister and my mom said something like "we'll see" and well...all i have to say to that now is "we'll see". :D
anyways, thats it for now. im just going to wallow in my own loneliness now.
bye.

toga! toga! toga!well, on the way back from a toga party, i overheard a conversation. it went something like this.
two guys: i dont know, ever since i've been here, i don't think i've been sober for more than 3 or 4 hours!
two girls: I KNOW! same with us!
two guys: this is AWESOME, just being drunk 24/7.
i dont need to comment on this. i think it speaks volumes on its own.
now that i've been here for a week, and well, my stereotype of university students has gone from sweater wearing, glasses bearing, braces clad nerds wtih pants pulled up to their chest and socks stretched halfway up their calves to...well...
this.

sex, drugs, alcohol, and a degreein the society we live in today, university has become the epitome of intellect. it is the place where young men and women go to in order to recieve a proper education and become valuable men and women of society.
funny isnt it?
its funny how university develops these strengths in the youth of today and trains them in terms of knowledge, yet fails in so many other cases.
sex. drugs. alcohol.
universtiy is a place of higher education. it attracts a crowd of today's youth who have future goals and aspirations -- they (we) all want to be successful members of the job market in the near future, whether that be as an accountant, a lawyer, and ENGINEER (:D:D:D), an entrepreneur, well, you get the point. well, knowledge alone won't get you there. professionalism people, professionalism. professionalism? hmmm...sex, drugs and alcohol.
real professional there guys. i don't blame the universities for these shortcomings. they are not the ones responsible. in most cases, they enforce rules that prevent these things from happening. they stop and prohibit underaged drinking and illicit drug use. and well as for sex? they can only do so much. they can't stop people from being so...shall we say..."liberal" about their sexual desires. they can't tell people not to have sex with jock/bimbo on campus, all they can do is tell people to wear a condom, or cover their drink in a bar. thats as far as the university can go in terms of "teaching" professinalism. the rest is up to us.
you and i. the youth. a change is required. a paradigm shift. people need to know that you dont need drugs and alcohol to have a good time. and if you do, well, then you need to find some
real friends. and as for sex? people need to learn that there is so much more to love than sex. that one does not have to show love for another in such a way. that there are other methods. that it is not essential to have sex in a given "serious" relationship. our youth need to learn that dressing in a "meat market" fashion in order to attract attention will only attract the wrong kind of attraction. girls, understand, that bearing it all like that speaks volumes about
you as a person and will only attract the guys who will not love you for
who you are but for
what you are. . which brings me to my next point: objectification. you have no idea how much crap i've heard here with guys who simply objectify women. its terrible. it makes me sick. guys who are here for NO OTHER REASON but to "check out hot chicks"...aingelirnvlsdfjaunblsjfoaijfalisdjf
university amplifies two things:
1) the genuine thirst for knowledge and a desire to succeed among the brightest assets of the future.
2) the darkest flaws of society.
i've said this before. im such an old man. a grumpy old fart if you will.

"well ... I suppose the answer can be summed up in one word --
love."

moving up, moving out, moving inwell, its the wee hours of monday morning. in a few hours, i will be living on campus. i'll be out on my own to fend for myself. well, that in mind, i decided to spend some quality time with some quality people today. and well, i guess i was kind of cynical about it. it felt like i would never see them again. it felt like we were administering our
final farewells, despite the fact that i will be back for thanksgiving, if not earlier. but it just feels that way. im leaving people for, well, a month and a half at most, but it just seems like so long.
i'm fearing change. i'm fearing time. i'm fearing what is not known by us, but has been perfectly planned out by someone who knows so much more.
few more hours, and i'll have nothing but (as the title suggests) memories and photographs. wait. scratch that. no. i will have more. more than just memories. memories implies history, old news, but this is an unfinished story. it wont stop just because im (insert distance here...metric please) away. it will just be different. something i will have to adapt to.
time to shed a manly tear.
i have officially closed one chapter of my life.
cheers.
dear all those i know and love: farewell.

mark your territory...with wordswell, coming out of highschool, leaving w.a.y., and going off to university, i have achieved a goal that i had never really set in the first place -- nor had i ever thought about it. i was able to reach out to
one person. it feels good. i'm glad i was able to make an impact on his/her life. its nice to know that just being kind to someone and subsequently getting to know someone better can mean sooo much to an individual.
on friday at w.a.y. (after attending joy) huston made a short little speech about how he hopes ivy and himself have made an impact on our lives. he said that in your life, you will probably meet 10-15 people who will make a lasting impact on your life, who will make you into the person you ultimately become, who will shape you, and who will influence you for the better. im not sure if i can be counted as one of those 10-15 in this person`s life...but i think i will make a new goal for myself. to be one of those 10-15 in at least
one person`s life.
i mean, it sounds kind of rediculous how i'm so happy that i reached out to
one person, whereas people like joeie all over the world practically do this for A LIVING, but doing this really meant stepping out of my comfort zone. i'm the kind of guy who likes to stick around the people he feels close with. and just making that initial step out was difficult. maybe its God preparing me for university.
and well, dear anonymous: you keep thanking me for the things i've done for you, but i would like to take this opportunity to thank YOU for teaching me soo much. thank you for the experience. you were definately encouraging. keep growing, and become the man/woman of Christ you ought to be!
...that was definately a nice conversation. i like when people are genuine with me.
