CO-OP MOMENT OF THE CENTURY
when an employer asks you to tell them a little about yourself, you should PROBABLY answer. i didnt...
*pause for laughter*
yea yea..shut up. dont laugh.
it was an informal interview, she had no questions prepared, she was just flipping through my resume and picking random things to ask me about. it was more of a conversation than a formal interview. then she ran out of questions, chuckled, and said something like "i guess this is where i ask you to tell me about yourself" but then she didnt look up and just kept flipping through my resume, so i wasnt sure if she was serious. so i just chuckled (thinking it was a joke) and then it was SILENT. she didnt say anything, i didnt say anything, she just kept flipping the pages back and forth. then she found a question to ask me...man it was sooo awkward. i didn tknow what to do! WORST interview moment EVAR!
yea...i told my housemates over dinner tonight and they got a good kick out of it...much laughter pointed in my direction.
can't wait till friday when the official rankings come out *crosses fingers*
[how the hell do i use this thing again?]
so i hate nathan. :P...just kidding *hugs nathan*...*kisses on cheek*
anyways, to get to the point:
so i was walking to the restaurant for my friend's birthday and i was pretty pressed for time. as i passed the last traffic light into the home stretch, someone dressed in a white dress shirt, black tie and a back pack started talking to me. i had never encountered a jehovah's witness or a mormon before, but i knew they were pretty prominent here in waterloo, because so many people have encountered them here. so it turned out he was a mormon. he introduced himself and i introduced myself. we started off talking on common terms, "where are you from" etc. then he got to business. he asked if i went to church, as well as my church background. he asked me a lot of questions. he was prepared. he was not nervous, and he anticipated all of my answers and had further pressing questions as follow up. he made me think. i was able to answer his questions, but he always had something to say about everything i said. he posed the question of why there was so much separation in the church today. i said it was because of the subtle (possibly irreconcilable) human differences we had. little things that had little or nothing to do with the core of faith, but just physical practices and whatnot. he continued to say that God was bringing another prophet to make things right. to reconcile all of those differences and unite the world church. and thats where it ended. we got to the corner where i was supposed to cross and we just hung around there for a while talking (we were walking and talking before). he knew i had somewhere to go so he decided not to pursue anything deeper at that point, which was quite nice of him. i was polite to him and in return, he was polite to me. in the end, he asked me if we could exchange phone numbers and talk another time. i drew the line there and said no. that would be too weird.
in hindsight, i wish i had stayed and talked with him a little bit more. it sure would have been better than giving him my number (which i did NOT do by the way) and i think there were still a few things i wanted to say. honestly, i wanted to know a little bit more from his side. not becasue i was in the least bit swayed, but because i think you really have to know where someone is coming from before you witness to them. and i think its always good to know what other sorts of beliefs are out there just so you can be on your toes and prepared.
it also showed me how unprepared i was. if we had pursued the conversation further, i dont know if i would have been able to stand up to all of his points, but it would have been interesting nonetheless.
well, anyhow, i just left and went off to my friend's partay without making anything of it. actually, its quite interesting because just last week at men's cell we were talking about witnessing and being bold. looking at the example of Jesus and the samaritan woman at the well. just dropping our agendas and witnessing at all costs. that was one thing i struggled with today. go the the party and leave the guy, or be late for the party, but get a chance to share my faith with someone who was trying to do the same.
well, its been a while since i posted...is this my pitiful way of trying to revive this blog? who knows?
