RE: the present music industry.

The music industry nowadays is quite appalling. It seems like music isn't even a factor anymore (ironically enough). Take for example Britney Spears. I have never really liked her music, but i can see how people could have like her during her humble beginnings. It was music -- not music I personally enjoyed, but music nonetheless. It had all the components of music, a melody, harmony, dynamics, and so on. Look at her now. Listen to her songs. I dont know about you, but quite frankly, that is not music. It doesn't have any of the components of music listed above. Now, it seems like she is not making music for music, but making music for an excuse to make a controversial music video where she almost bears all. What is this a case of? "sex sells". Ask yourself, does it really? Does she really make more money from these provocative videos? Do more people like her "music" becuase of what they see? No. By making a video like this, she is merely attracting a bunch of horndogs that watch her music videos on mute. What happened to the music? People often justify it by saying that its a "coming of age" thing. No its not. Its just stupid, she's just merely devaluing herself. And if it IS a coming of age thing, then what a wicked world we live in (wicked meaning sick and disturbing, not cool). Its not just about Britney spears neither. I don't think its fair to simply pick on her. I mean, it just seems that every music video I see, there is some sort of underlying message relating or pertaining to sex. Is this the way to sell music? Is this what artists need to do in order to bring in the big bucks? If it is, I suggest making better music, not videos with scantily clad women wearing little to nothing at all.

Comments:
Well, the point isn't who's in business and who's not. Just because someone like Britney Spears goes out of business because everyone hates her does not mean that there is nothing wrong with society. Society is no doubt, on a slippery slope -- just look back to the 50's where showing joints such as knees, ankles, and elbows were taboo; were provocative; were considered "living on the while side". It still doesn't change the fact that people, according to you karwai, want stupid things.

I doubt these videos with provocative images and content truly sell music. For one thing, everyone downloads. Only the straight edges like me still BUY music in a legit way. But anyways, back to the point; these videos aren't advertisements for an artist's music, they are advertisements of a lifestyle. This is a grim thought. People want to be who they like. They see certain lifestyles portrayed in these videos and thats what they become. Guys "get all the chicks" if they have the fastest car, if they have enough money to throw into the wind, if they play cool and laid back. Girls get all the guys if they "bear all" or flirt excessively. Its not about the music anymore.

Moving beyond music videos (or perhaps backtracking); lets listen to some of the lyrics. B4-4 -- they had a song (i dont remember the title) with lyrics in the chorus such as "if you get down on me, I'll get down on you". Hmm...Do people realize that this entire song is about oral sex? Is that not disturbing? Here are radio stations censoring f-bombs, but are neglecting the fact that a song is about oral sex and just play it as is? Isn't there something a little unsound with that?

Boycotting music isn't the solution. In Britney Spears' case, it is, since her music, well, isn't music. But in most cases, the bands DO produce good music. What then?

AHHHH... stupid society.

yay for CD buying!!!

.. I don't download music, i don't do any mp3, or any.. like.. CD burnage. :) i buy what i like, and when i have the time. The feeling of buying your own CD gives you more respect for the things you have, not just CD's. but music, secular or not, should be and stay materialize. Remember that these "things" aren't needs.. they are only wants.

and yes.. the media today.. the people today.. filled with so much... disgusting things. you know what i think? if someone has to go through all that trouble to.. "promote" (quotes.. because are they really promoting themselves or are they making another issue appear.) themselves.. they have really really really low self esteem and have no morals or values in life.

clay aiken is amazing, because he doesn't care about what other people thing of his image. I watched on television, and how the managers wanted him to get this new.. "bad boy" image.. and wanted him to just be different. He refused, and look at him now, he's just as famous as britney spears. maybe not yet, but he's getting there. he sticks to what he believes in

Celebrities who are easily mulipliated to become people they aren't, is just stupid. They need to find their self esteem elsewhere.. not in materialistic things... and unworthy things for people to see.

what our world needs more of is people with self esteem. To stand up for themselves, to do what they love.. with their standings, their beliefs.. their vaules.. and with that worthyness to be looked up as.

how can people like.. "britney spears" feel comfortable thinking this image is what young girls look up to. It's disgusting.. and dispicable.
